ST. LOUIS, MO, Apr. 18 – Stringbean Coffee Company introduced a reusable mug today in connection with a new sustainability initiative to minimize waste in the form of environmentally damaging plastic. “The mug, deemed The Stringbean Sip Kanteen, debuted on their website for customers this morning.

“Most plastic, including plastic water bottles, end up in the ocean or a landfill,” Peter Cohen, the owner and roaster at Stringbean Coffee Company, said in an interview last Friday. “Our mug and sustainability initiative is us showing up and saying, ‘This is important. We need to do something about this before it’s too late.’”

And he’s not wrong. Scientists now estimate that by 2050, the ocean will contain more plastic by weight than fish. The Stringbean Sip Kanteen is a 16 oz tumbler made for storing hot coffee, cold brew, tea, water, and more and comes with a leak proof cap which keeps your liquids safely contained and temperature maintained for 10 hours if hot and 30 hours if iced.

“We’re hoping that people sip their Stringbean using the mug, sure, but we also hope they might take it along on a hike to keep their water cold or along to the gas station to fill up at the soda machine instead of reaching for styrofoam. We want it to be your new favorite mug. And once you use it, we think it will be.”

The mug adds to Stringbean’s continued efforts for sustainability and environmental advocacy, including their use of Fair Trade coffee beans and chemical free decaf coffee. The company also makes regular donations to Cafe Femenino, an organization giving hope to women in coffee producing countries around the world, and an orphaned orangutan named Bayat who resides in Indonesia, and same area where beans are sourced for Stringbean’s Sumatra Roast.
